Our Philosophy
Software Leverage does software development projects for
technologically advanced customers who don't specialized in software or are too
overloaded to do these projects internally. Our projects involve
advanced-level Windows or Linux development, CRM, and
database work. We are not a "body shop" or a consulting
agency. Our people are full-time employees who work together in a
friendly, informal environment to solve our customer's problems.
Our philosophy is to tailor our business practices to the
fast-paced software industry. Gone are the days when a programmer could learn C
or Cobol, and then count on decades of productive employment. In today's
software field where product cycles happen very quickly, a software engineer
must be constantly learning to stay current. If we are not up on the latest
technology then the software we build will look dated and take forever to
complete, and our customers will go elsewhere.
Learning is hard work, but it's fun too. There is a certain
pride to figuring out the latest technologies from Microsoft, Sun, Linux,
and others. Then comes the challenge of deciding which ones are useful
and which ones are still impractical, and then apply the best practices to
produce software for our customers that is better than they can get from
anywhere else.
Because of our philosophy, you are not stuck doing ever-more-boring
work with ever-more-obsolete technology on the same software for years and
years like you might be at a larger company. Our projects typically last
a year or less, so there is variety in your work. You can get the sense
of accomplishment from a job well done, and move on to a new project using new
technologies on a regular basis.
In many cases, our customers are not bothered by how we solve their
problem as long as the solution works. This gives us the freedom to learn
the latest technologies such as Visual Studio .NET, mySQL, or 802.11b, and use
the right combination to build elegant software. We end up in a
win-win situation: our customers get a better solution in less time than they
were expecting based upon their experience with older technology, and we get to
keep learning and using the latest tools as our field advances.
