Software Leverage is always looking for bright, motivated software
engineers who thrive on figuring out the latest technologies and use them to
solve our customer's problems.
We have abandoned the traditional big-company approach to hiring
where a prospective employee must have experience with an exact list of
software and technologies in order to be considered. You have to be
pretty good at writing software, of course, but the exact kind of software and
the exact tools you have used are less important. No matter how
impressive the list of tools you have used is, in a few years nobody will be
using them any more and you will need to get familiar with a completely new
set.
Instead, we are looking for software engineers who excel at the
basic skills of understanding what a program really needs to do and then
rapidly creating an elegant software solution to that problem. You also
need to enjoy learning and be able to absorb new material quickly. You'll
know it if you are the kind of person we are looking for: always able to figure
out a software problem when those around you are confused, always a little more
up on the latest advances, and always excited about being able to solve a
problem in a new way.
Of course, we welcome traditional candidates who actually have the
right skill mix for our current needs, but we are open-minded and willing to
listen to people with other programming backgrounds. Perhaps you learned
software development as part of another job and now want to do it full time, or
are good at software development but need to catch up on recent technologies,
or are even a self-taught programmer wondering how to get a real job.
We have great expectations: you must have decent writing skills,
bring us programming samples that show creativity and an understanding of the
problem you were solving, and show us that you have the desire and ability to
rapidly master new programming tools if given the chance. In return, you
will get to work in a dynamic small-company environment with seasoned gurus who
will take the time to point you to what you need to make your project a
success.
